Elaine Hyman

Born in New York City, Hyman attended New York University where she received her B.A. She continued her education at Syracuse University where she was awarded a graduate fellowhsip and the New School Research where she studied with noted scupltors Erna Weil (1904-96), Chaim Gross (1904-91) and Lorrie Goulet (b. 1925).

At her first show at the Bodley Gallery in New York City, Art News stated that, "sculpture in stone is not le dernier cri, but Hyman has orginal ideas along with refined techinque-leaving open space to define form." She has exhibited widely at various galleries and institutions including the Houston Hall Gallery, The Fine Arts Committee Show (Teaneck, NJ), Bodley Gallery (NYC, 1973,1978,1982), Englewood Jewish Community Center (NJ), B. Spencer Newman Art Gallery, Bergen Community Museum (NJ, 1974), University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pa, 1975), New School for Social Research (NY), Newark Museum (NJ), YMHA (NJ), Adelphi University (NY, 1969), Caravan House Gallery (NYC, 1971), Pine Public Library (NJ, 1975), Patricia Moore Gallery (Aspen, Co, 1976), World Trade Center (NYC, 1978), Hopper House (NY, 1978), and Kornbluth Gallery (NJ, 1987).

 Her work is held in the collections of the Fordam University Law Center (NY), Clayton-Liberatore Gallery (NY), Norfolk-Chrysler Museum (VA), Bergen Community Center (NJ), Notre Dame University Collection (IN), Bridgehampton (NY) and other private collections.
