Tseng Ying Pang

   Born Japan, Pang grew up in China, alternatetively living in China and Japan and eventually the United States where he died. His delicate, distinctive watercolors are immediately recognizable, despite great variation in subject. This is painting dates from his time in America. 
 
 
   "The President of the Republic of China, Chiang-Kai-Shek, awarded him the President’s award, the highest prize that any Chinese artist had ever received. the same year, 1966, with a grant from the Asia Foundation, Pang and his family emigrated to the United States. From his biography: "The last thing he expected to do was to take the American art world by storm. However, when his cousin entered one of his paintings in a contest, it won Pang his first prize in the U.S. Within the next couple of years, he collected some two- hundred more."
