   A New York City WPA painter, born in Naples, Italy, Ferrante was originally one of the Italian Manifesto of Furturism, He studied with Antonio Mancini at the Royal Institute Belle Arti in Naples, earning an M.A. before coming to the United States in 1922. In addition to his work for the WPA, he worked at the Disney Studios in the city.
   When he moved to California, he also painted murals and produced striking serigraphs, becoming one of the first members of the Los Angeles Serigraphy Institute of Los Angeles. He established a studio in Glendale.
   He exhibited his works at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Brigham Young University, and Bienale de Milan. His works are held in the collections of Yale University, Princeton University, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and Brigham Young University. He taught as a Professor of Art at Barnsdale College in Hollywood, California from 1970-1984..
The thick impasto and strong black countours are reminiscent of Picasso's cubist works of the early twentieth century. The bright colors and abstract forms contribute in the "modern" look of this work.
