Blizzrd 1933 is a very unusual subject for the artist. Boathouses is one of Lever’s last paintings. By 1941, he had severe arthritus in his right hand and learned paint with his left. He continued to sell well and win prizes. After his wife died,he was confined to a nursing home, where he continued to paint. Typical strong brushstrokes, a wonderful sky and sense of movement appear in this unusual subject. The Industrial Scene also represents an unusual subject for the artist.

A child genius who arrived at St. Ives from Austrailia and quickly established himself. His move to America, where he spent most of his career, was highly successful. Although somewhat eclipsed by the sweep of Abstract Expressionism, his auction records and gallery prices have climbed steadily.

   Major Prizes: Royal Institute (1936), NAD 1914,1936, 1938, National Arts Club 1914. 1915, 1916, 1922 & 1940, Panama-Pacific Expo 1915, PAFA 1917 & 1926, 1918

Permanent Collections include PAFA, Metropolitan, Boston, Baltimore, Corcoran, White House, Ft. Worth, Dallas, LA , Detroit Institute of Art, Adelaide, Sydney, Whitney, Syracuse, St. Louis, Memphis Art, and many others.
