Professor Louis-Etienne Desmant, French ceramicist, was born at Choisy le Roi in 1844 and died in 1902. He worked in the towns of Subles, Calvados, and Montières. His work is quite rare. They worked independent of the Arts & Crafts movement, but their forms and fabulous glazes fit into the period.

According to Skinner Auction House, a piece by him, made in 1902 was sold by Tiffany & Co. His son, Lucien-Adolphe (?), worked with him and may have continued the style for the next decade. Much both their work draws its inspiration from the famous tapestries. His mark is recorded in Marks and Monograms of the Modern Movement. Both are listed in The Arts & Crafts Home at www.achome.co.uk
