SALE Covered Bridge in Fall

Harry Shokler

4" x 6"

A hand-pulled small edition framed Christmas card from 1930s. the card is signed.
One of the "earliest pioneers of serigraph", the poor man's oil painting,  Shokler  taught many of the WPA era artists his technique. During the depression, prints were usually pulled to order, as the heavy paper and thick inks were expensive. Signed in the plate (as in an oil painting), they were often not pencil signed. Editions were small.

This quaint New England scene of a covered bridge in the fall brings to mind a simplier time.  The two trees with their yellow leaves frame the covered bridge in the distance.  There is just the slight indication of a country road that leads to the bridge and beyond.  There is a peaceful quality to this work that would completment any home decor!.
