Browne's realistic works are relatively rare. According to one source, he made a point of destroying anything in his possession when he began to work in more modern abstract modes. The board on the woman dressing is cracked and then suppported. The frame seems original and the repair may well be the artist's own.
His work is discussed in many books. Spanierman Gallery included his work its 2005 exhibtion of Fine American Art and in their Art for the New Collector - re-Emerging American Artists. Rogers published a monogram Byron Browne - A Seminal American Modernist. His work is discussed in American Gone Modern, Modern American Painting by Agee, and American Modernism from the Kaufman Collection. AskArt lists 64 books which reference him.
